What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable that is formulated with botulinum toxin type A. While this sounds scary and dangerous, it’s not! This neuromodulator works by reducing muscle contractions where it is injected. This means that it can address the dynamic wrinkles that form from muscle tightness in the face. These wrinkles include those that develop on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes, commonly referred to as “crow’s feet.” Botox is best used on the upper portion of the face where muscle contractions are strongest and create the deeper wrinkles and folds.

How long does Botox last?

Botox is not a permanent solution to wrinkles and folds caused by muscle tension. Each treatment typically lasts anywhere between four to six months, when the body gradually starts to absorb the medication safely. To maintain results, patients will want to visit the office for continued injections. While the results will not last forever, continual injections every four to six months can help slow the progression of aging and delay the need for surgical interventions such as a forehead lift or a facelift.
