A body lift is a surgical procedure that works to lift and tighten excess skin and muscle from the upper legs and torso. Typically, patients seek a body lift if they have lost a significant amount of weight and are dealing with loose skin. Many patients also opt for a breast lift, liposuction or arm lift at the same time, for further enhanced results. The results of the procedure are a firm and toned abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and hips.
Body Lifts – The Procedure and Recovery
It is important to note that this procedure is not designed for removing excess fat. If you have excess fat that requires removal, then you should consider liposuction. A body lift is a good option if you have sagging skin in multiple places. However, if you have problems only in your abdominal region or your buttocks, then you should probably consider an abdominoplasty or butt lift.
- The procedure: After giving either general anesthesia or a sedative, incisions are made around your body’s circumference. After lifting the skin, tissues and muscles beneath it will be tightened. If necessary, fat will be removed. It is also common to remove and replace your navel in a new position. The skin is placed back in position, excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed.
- Recovery: After the surgery, you will have to use compression clothing for several weeks. For a few days, surgical tubes may also be placed to assist in draining fluid from the area of surgery. While you will be asked to walk as soon as you can, you will also be asked to not partake in any strenuous activity for at least a month.
