“Looking younger.” Time and time again, that’s the number-one goal I’ll hear during a plastic surgery consultation. Whether battling facial wrinkles, a sagging neck or drooping eyes, the aging process touches us all. It can affect not only our appearance, but our self esteem and confidence. And, when patients are looking to shave off a few years, many are left to ask, “Can plastic surgery really turn back the clock?” One study has finally confirmed the answer.
Health Magazine is reporting on new research published in medical journal, Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery. According to the magazine, plastic surgeons “asked medical students to estimate the ages of patients in before-and-after pictures.” What they found, explains the magazine, was that “facial surgery reduces a person’s outward age by about six to eight years, depending on the extent of the procedure.”
So, which procedures, in particular, were they studying? “People who had a face-lift and neck lift looked an average of 5.7 years younger post-surgery,” explains Health Magazine. “Adding in eyelid work shaved off nearly two additional years, and adding a forehead lift on top of that took off about another year.” And, while these numbers certainly aren’t a guarantee of what your results will be, they shed some interesting light on how effective facial plastic surgery can actually be.

Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures
Your face can say a lot about you. Is yours saying the right thing? Here are a few of the top procedures among those dealing with facial aging:
- Facelift: Facelift Surgery is one of the most effective and time-tested ways of rejuvenating the face. During the procedure, underlying muscles are tightened and facial skin is redraped around the neck and face.
- Eyelid Lift: Eyelid Surgery, also known as “blepharoplasty,” aims to correct the appearance of sagging, drooping or tired-looking eyes. During the procedure, excess fat, skin and muscle are removed from the upper and lower eyelids. The goal is a fresher, more youthful appearance.
- Forehead Lift: Also known as a “brow lift,” Forehead Lift Surgery is a procedure aimed at reducing the signs of aging on the eyebrows and forehead. This can include forehead drooping, horizontal lines and more.
